About Calcein Green

Calcein Green is a green fluorescent molecule that penetrates the membranes of dead cells and is used to evaluate cell membrane integrity as well as esterase activity. Closely related is Calcein Green AM, which due to the acetoxymethyl (AM) modification, can passively diffuse across the membranes of live cells. While inside the live cell, Calcein Green AM is hydrolyzed by esterase into the fluorescent Calcein Green which can then be measured via Fluorescence Microscopy, flow cytometer, or fluorescent microplate reader. It has an excitation peak at 493 nm and an emission peak at 512 nm.
