About DRAQ 5

DRAQ5™ is a far-red-emitting anthraquinone dye that can be excited using a 594 nm red laser and captured with a 695/40 bandpass filter. It has an excitation peak at 599nm and an emission peak at 697 nm when intercalated with dsDNA. DRAQ5™ can be combined with FITC, PE, and other UV or violet excitable dyes for multi-color analysis. However due to its broad excitiation profile, DRAQ5 is not recommended in combination with other far-red fluorophores, such as PE-Cy7, PerCP-eFluor™ 710, PerCP-Cy5.5, APC, Alexa Fluor™ 647, Alexa Fluor™ 700, APC-eFluor™ 780, APC-Alexa Fluor™ 750, APC-Cy7 or equivalents. DRAQ5 is used to stain live or fixed cells for imaging, cytometry and screening applications. Its high-affinity for double stranded DNA allows for easy DNA detection or nuclei counterstaining without UV excitation. In flow cytometry, DRAQ5 can be used to distinguish between nucleated and non-nucleated cells without any lysis or fixation, permeabilisation or RNase treatment. Because DRAQ5 binds DNA stoichiometrically, it can also be used to report nuclear DNA content for ploidy or cell cycle analysis. In fluorescent microscopy, DRAQ5 is used for nuclei counterstaining. DRAQ dyes are manufactured and sold by Biostatus.
