Description | Clone REA522 recognizes the human CD143 antigen, a single-pass type I membrane protein, which is also known as angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE). CD143, which exists in two isoforms (a 170 kDa somatic form and a 90 kDa germinal form), is part of the renin-angiotensin system (RAS), and increases blood pressure by causing blood vessels to constrict. It is secreted by cells in the endothelium of blood vessels in lungs and kidneys. The function of CD143 is to catalyse the conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II, which are also part of RAS. CD143 is highly regulated in different diseases, for example, sarcoidosis, acute hepatits, diabetis mellitus, multiple myeloma, and osteoarthritis. The somatic form is expressed by endothelial cells (especially those of arterioles and lung capillaries), epithelial cells (especially in proximal renal tubules and in the small intestine), by some neuronal cells, and variably on some macrophages and T lymphocytes. The germinal form is expressed by spermatozoa. Furthermore CD143 is expressed by hematopoietic stem cells in human embryonic, fetal, and adult hematopoietic tissues. | Additional information: Clone REA522 displays negligible binding to Fc receptors. |
About CD143 and APC
CD143 | This gene encodes an enzyme involved in blood pressure regulation and electrolyte balance. It catalyzes the conversion of angiotensin I into a physiologically active peptide angiotensin II. Angiotensin II is a potent vasopressor and aldosterone-stimulating peptide that controls blood pressure and fluid-electrolyte balance. This angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) also inactivates the vasodilator protein, bradykinin. Accordingly, the encoded enzyme increases blood pressure and is a drug target of ACE inhibitors, which are often prescribed to reduce blood pressure. This enzyme additionally plays a role in fertility through its ability to cleave and release GPI-anchored membrane proteins in spermatozoa. Many studies have associated the presence or absence of a 287 bp Alu repeat element in this gene with the levels of circulating enzyme. This polymorphism, as well as mutations in this gene, have been implicated in a wide variety of diseases including cardiovascular pathophysiologies, psoriasis, renal disease, stroke, and Alzheimer's disease. Regulation of the homologous ACE2 gene may be involved in progression of disease caused by several human coronaviruses, including SARS-CoV and SARS-CoV-2. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding both somatic (sACE) and male-specific testicular (tACE) isoforms. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2020] | |

APC | Allophycocyanin (APC) is a fluorescent protein derived from cyanobacteria and red algae and a potent donor fluorophore to create tandem dyes that can be excited off the 633-640 nm laser. APC has an excitation peak at 650 nm and a emission peak at 660 nm. |
