About CD5 and RealBlue 744
CD5 This gene encodes a member of the scavenger receptor cysteine-rich (SRCR) superfamily. Members of this family are secreted or membrane-anchored proteins mainly found in cells associated with the immune system. This protein is a type-I transmembrane glycoprotein found on the surface of thymocytes, T lymphocytes and a subset of B lymphocytes. The encoded protein contains three SRCR domains and may act as a receptor to regulate T-cell proliferation. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms. RealBlue 744 RealBlue™ 744 from BD Biosciences is a novel multimer fluorophore for use in spectral flow cytometry applications with an optimal excitation peak at 488nm and an emission peak at 744nm. The emission peak fits neatly between the PerCP-Cy5.5/ StarBright Blue 700/ RealBlue™ 705 and the RealBlue™ 780 emission peaks which means it does not fall into a standard filter set on conventional, non-spectral flow cytometers. It exhibits minimal cross-beam excitation off the 355nm UV, 405nm violet, 561nm yellow/green and 633/647nm red lasers resulting in low potential for spillover spreading error in a multicolor flow cytometry assay.
