Description This mucin is present in primary ovarian mucinous cancer but usually absent in colorectal adenocarcinoma, thus showing an expression pattern opposite to MUC2. Together with a panel of antibodies, anti-MUC5AC may be useful for differential identification of primary mucinous ovarian tumors from colon adenocarcinoma metastatic to the ovary. MUC5AC antibodies may also be useful for identification of intestinal metaplasia as well as in the identification of pancreatic carcinoma and pre-cancerous changes vs. normal pancreas.
About MUC-5AC and CF488A
MUC-5AC Predicted to be an extracellular matrix structural constituent. Involved in phosphatidylinositol-mediated signaling. Located in cytoplasm; extracellular space; and mucus layer. Implicated in dry eye syndrome. Biomarker of several diseases, including Sjogren's syndrome; biliary tract disease (multiple); cystic fibrosis; eye disease (multiple); and pancreatic cancer (multiple). CF488A CF®488A from Biotium is a fluorophore with an excitation peak at 490 nm and an emission peak at 515 nm. It is spectrally similar to Fluorescein, Alexa Fluor™ 488 and DyLight™ 488. It can be use in fluorescence microscopy and flow cytometry. In microscopy, CF®488A has been specifically validated for STORM, STED, Structured Illumination (SIM), 2-Photon microscopy and TIRF.
