Description CX3CR1 is a transmembrane chemokine receptor with a molecular mass of 40 kDa. It binds the chemokine CX3CL1, also known as fractalkine or neurotactin. Binding of CX3CR1 to the membrane‑bound form of fractalkine promotes cell-cell adhesion, wheras the soluble form induces cell migration of CX3CR1-bearing cells such as monocytes, NK cells, T cells, dendritic cells (DCs), and macrophages including microglia.¹ CX3CR1 plays also an important role in the formation of transepithelial dendrites by intestinal DCs.² Failure in the fractalkine/CX3CR1 interaction may contribute to the development of several inflammatory diseases including atherosclerosis, psoriasis, rheumatoid arthritis, and experimental autoimmune myositis.
About CX3CR1 and APC
CX3CR1 Fractalkine is a transmembrane protein and chemokine involved in the adhesion and migration of leukocytes. The protein encoded by this gene is a receptor for fractalkine. The encoded protein also is a coreceptor for HIV-1, and some variations in this gene lead to increased susceptibility to HIV-1 infection and rapid progression to AIDS. Four transcript variants encoding two different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jan 2010]
APC Allophycocyanin (APC) is a fluorescent protein derived from cyanobacteria and red algae and a potent donor fluorophore to create tandem dyes that can be excited off the 633-640 nm laser. APC has an excitation peak at 650 nm and a emission peak at 660 nm.
