About EGF Receptor and Brilliant Ultraviolet 805
EGF Receptor The protein encoded by this gene is a transmembrane glycoprotein that is a member of the protein kinase superfamily. This protein is a receptor for members of the epidermal growth factor family. EGFR is a cell surface protein that binds to epidermal growth factor, thus inducing receptor dimerization and tyrosine autophosphorylation leading to cell proliferation. Mutations in this gene are associated with lung cancer. EGFR is a component of the cytokine storm which contributes to a severe form of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) resulting from infection with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2). Brilliant Ultraviolet 805 Brilliant™ UltraViolet 805 (BUV805) is a infrared-emitting tandem fluorophore that combines BD Horizon® BUV395 and an acceptor dye. It can be excited by the 355 nm UV laser and collected using a 820/60 bandpass filter. BUV805 has an excitation peak at 498 nm and an emission peak at 797 nm This dye is part of the Brilliant™ UltraViolet dye family, developed and sold by BD Biosciences. This family of dyes uses BUV395 as the donor so that all dyes in the family can be excited by the 355 nm UV laser. Depending on the acceptor, the dyes in this family have different relative brightness ratings.
