About CD8b and Brilliant Ultraviolet 661
CD8b | The CD8 antigen is a cell surface glycoprotein found on most cytotoxic T lymphocytes that mediates efficient cell-cell interactions within the immune system. The CD8 antigen, acting as a coreceptor, and the T-cell receptor on the T lymphocyte recognize antigens displayed by an antigen presenting cell (APC) in the context of class I MHC molecules. The functional coreceptor is either a homodimer composed of two alpha chains, or a heterodimer composed of one alpha and one beta chain. Both alpha and beta chains share significant homology to immunoglobulin variable light chains. This gene encodes the CD8 beta chain isoforms. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct membrane associated or secreted isoforms have been described. A pseudogene, also located on chromosome 2, has been identified. Brilliant Ultraviolet 661 | Brilliant™ UltraViolet 661 (BUV661) is a red-emitting tandem fluorophore that combines BD Horizon® BUV395 and an acceptor dye. It can be excited by the 355 nm UV laser and collected using a 670/25 bandpass filter. BUV661 has an excitation peak at 498 nm and an emission peak at 657 nm This dye is part of the Brilliant™ UltraViolet dye family, developed and sold by BD Biosciences. This family of dyes uses BUV395 as the donor so that all dyes in the family can be excited by the 355 nm UV laser. Depending on the acceptor, the dyes in this family have different relative brightness ratings. |
