Description Clone REA1011 recognizes the interleukin-13 (IL-13), which is produced primarily by activated Tʜ2 cells, but also by mast cells, natural killer (NK) cells, and dendritic cells (DCs). IL-13 exerts anti-inflammatory effects on monocytes and macrophages. Furthermore, it inhibits the expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines, such as IL-1β, TNF-α, IL-6, and IL-8. IL-13 has also been shown to enhance B cell proliferation and to induce isotype switching, resulting in an increased production of IgE. IL-13, in contrast to IL-4, fails to induce Tʜ2 cell differentiation, one of the hallmarks of the allergic response. | Additional Information: Clone REA1011 displays negligible binding to Fc receptors.
About IL-13 and PE-Vio615
IL-13 This gene encodes an immunoregulatory cytokine produced primarily by activated Th2 cells. This cytokine is involved in several stages of B-cell maturation and differentiation. It up-regulates CD23 and MHC class II expression, and promotes IgE isotype switching of B cells. This cytokine down-regulates macrophage activity, thereby inhibits the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines and chemokines. This cytokine is found to be critical to the pathogenesis of allergen-induced asthma but operates through mechanisms independent of IgE and eosinophils. This gene, IL3, IL5, IL4, and CSF2 form a cytokine gene cluster on chromosome 5q, with this gene particularly close to IL4. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]
