This gene encodes a nuclear protein that belongs to the basic helix-loop-helix family of transcription factors and the myogenic factors subfamily. It regulates muscle cell differentiation by inducing cell cycle arrest, a prerequisite for myogenic initiation. The protein is also involved in muscle regeneration. CF®555 from Biotium is a fluorophore with an excitation peak at 555 nm and an emission peak at 565 nm. It can be useful in both fluorescence microscopy and flow cytometry. It is spectrally similar to Alexa Fluor™ 555, ATTO 550 and DyLight™ 550. In Flow Cytometry, R-PE is a brighter alternative to CF®555. In microscopy, it has been validated for use in super-resolution imaging by STORM.
