This gene encodes a member of the type I (acidic) cytokeratin family, which belongs to the superfamily of intermediate filament (IF) proteins. Keratins are heteropolymeric structural proteins which form the intermediate filament. These filaments, along with actin microfilaments and microtubules, compose the cytoskeleton of epithelial cells. CF®488A from Biotium is a fluorophore with an excitation peak at 490 nm and an emission peak at 515 nm. It is spectrally similar to Fluorescein, Alexa Fluor™ 488 and DyLight™ 488. It can be use in fluorescence microscopy and flow cytometry. In microscopy, CF®488A has been specifically validated for STORM, STED, Structured Illumination (SIM), 2-Photon microscopy and TIRF.
